SHELBY -- Shelby police responded to a report of multiple gunshots fired in the area of Second Street and East Whitney Avenue early in the morning of April 1.
“In total four different apartments were struck by gunfire,” a Shelby police incident report states.
No one was shot or injured in the incident reported about 3:32 a.m. Thursday.
While responding to the scene, Shelby police received further complaints from two residents in that area who had reported that their homes had been hit by gunfire, according to a police report.
Shelby police officers found evidence of gunshots in the siding of one residence on Second Street and learned that another Second Street address had been hit by gunfire, as well, the report stated.
The area was taped off as a crime scene and further evidence was recovered from inside one of the apartments, the report also stated.
“Assistance from the Richland County Sheriff’s Office was requested and two deputies subsequently arrived at the scene and assisted with the investigation,” Shelby police reported.
No further information was immediately available on the status of the investigation or other circumstances. No arrests have been announced.
