The suspect in an alleged homicide that happened Sept. 12 on Wessor Avenue was in the process of being transferred to the Huron County Jail late Friday afternoon. He was in a Toledo hospital being treated for injuries in a motor vehicle crash as a result of a pursuit by sheriff’s deputies in Sandusky County.
Javier Estrella Lopez has been charged in Norwalk Municipal Court with one count of murder. Willard Police Chief Shannon Chaffins said Lopez has been served with the arrest warrant.
Police received a 9-1-1 call just before 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 12 reporting a stabbing. Chaffins said the caller said the stabbing was in the 600 block of Wessor Drive and said a man had stabbed a female at that location.
When officers arrived Chaffins said they found a female. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A male had apparently fled the scene in a SUV.
Deputies in Sandusky County found the vehicle parked and went in pursuit. Lopez eventually rammed a sheriff’s cruiser. No one was inside at the time, but Lopez was injured and taken to a Toledo hospital
According to Chaffins, the motive for the alleged murder is unknown at this time. There were two other persons in the residence at the time of the incident.
The case remains under investigation by the Willard Police Department.
