SHELBY-- As coronavirus prevention efforts continue, Shelby City Hall is closing to the public, starting Tuesday, March 24, Mayor Steven Schag said.

City Hall staff will be available during 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to answer phone calls, he said in a written statement Monday.

Income tax filings will be accepted by mail only, Schag said. Residents can obtain

birth certificates by downloading an application from the city’s website

and mailing it to Shelby City, 43 West Main Street, Shelby, OH  44875, he said.

Closing City Hall, is to comply with the Ohio Department of Health Director’s

orders, said Schag, who reported that he is modifying the emergency declaration of March 19.

"We apologize for the inconvenience during this time, and I thank you for your understanding," Schag wrote.

Shelby City Hall's closure will last until the orders of the state health director are lifted, he said.

Two case of coronavirus were reported in Richland County as of Monday.
