Shelby lead pipe replacement project moving forward

Reports were presented by officials including Joe Gies, the city project coordinator, at the Oct. 4 City Council meeting.

"We are finishing up our paving program, and we'll be starting the (downtown area) lead service line replacement as soon as the materials arrive," Gies said. "That will be going on this winter and planning to get the downtown enhancement (project) started in early spring as soon as we can."
This lead service line replacement project involves 41 lead service lines in the Main Street business area.
Earlier, Mayor Steve Schag said that on Oct. 6, the city would be entering into contract negotiations with International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18-S Units A and B at Shelby City Hall. Also, a meeting with the Fraternal Order of Police is planned for Oct. 20 to begin negotiations.
