The coronavirus pandemic is prompting the cancellation of events in Shelby.

The downtown light parade on November 27 has been cancelled due to COVID restrictions per city officials.

“We will still have the tree lighting that night November 27th at 7 PM in the green space at the Black Fork Commons,” organizers said in their announcement.

“Santa will also be in attendance meeting COVID guidelines," the announcement stated. “We are asking all Shelby downtown businesses to decorate their windows so the community can walk and enjoy Christmas decorations (throughout) the downtown.”

Separately on Thursday, Shelby’s Connie Roub said that the Polar Xpress special event also is cancelled this year due to the pandemic and related restrictions.
