New requests at SHS Alumni Association meeting

Deborah Kollmeir Gwirtz attended the meeting with a request that the Board considers the purchase of a golf cart to assist people with difficulty walking, at the football games. Much discussion was held among the members. John Gies stated he would check regarding liability regarding this project. Several members will also check if another organization would be interested in the project. This subject will be continued at the next meeting. Christina Drain gave an update on the Shelby Whippets Association website. The Donor Box is almost finished on the website.

 

Dave Winans suggested that the association begin thinking about another fundraising event and an alumni event.  A possible alumni gala was discust to help bring alumni together to build comradery.  A discussion was held and will continue at the next meeting.

 

John Gies gave a report on the schools. This year the high school will reach the mile mark of 70,000 graduates. Also, the two-story part of the old middle school building is down and the Board hopes to move into the building in February. He also shared a card from Scott Gurney, Andy Carver, and their students thanking the Association for the calculators the Association purchased for their math classes.

 

Tom Armstrong reported the Association is working with Shelby Foundation on a possible Endowment Fund to be realized. Michele Black Abrams was sworn in as a new member via zoom. Randy Brodrick visited the meeting as a possible new member. ALL SHS GRADUATES CAN JOIN THE ASSOCIATION!
