Runners compete in Shelby's Whippet 5K Run

A total of 92 people took part in the annual Whippet 5K Run on Saturday, July 10.

Caleb Brown, Shelby’s most decorated track and cross country athlete who is headed to the University of Oregon this fall, crushed his own record in the event with a winning time of 14:04. His previous best was 14:47 set in 20:19.

Additionally, Brown’s fourth consecutive victory tied him with Andy Knapp for most Whippet 5K triumphs.

Emma McCarron was the female best in the race as she finished 11th overall with a clocking of 18:09. For the women’s top runner in the event, McCarron has seven triumphs under her belt.
