Shelby High School cross country runner Emma Montgomery keeps pace with a Galion opponent at the MOAC championship race Saturday.

Saturday was a day of sports successes, league championships and more for the Shelby Whippets and the school's athletes.

In a series of updates via social media, the school announced that:

* Golfer Nicole Jones shot a 148 and finished as state runner-up.

* Both the boys and girls cross country teams won Mid Ohio Athletic Conference (MOAC) titles. 

* Mason Hendrickson and Huck Finnegan finished 1-2 among the boys, and Kayla Gonzales is the 2021 MOAC girls champion.

* The boys cross country team's win represents its fifth straight league title dating back to the Sandusky Bay Conference.

* Carson Perkins won the JV cross country race

* Shelby's junior varsity football team defeated River Valley to finish the season 9-0 and as MOAC champions, Shelby's varsity head football coach, Rob Mahaney reported via Twitter.
