In a wild Mid Ohio Athletic Conference affair, Shelby rallied in the fourth quarter for an 85-74 boys basketball win against River Valley Thursday night in the Dawg House.
The Whippets, who outscored the Vikings 32-14 in the closing period, led by 12 in the first half and found themselves down 12 in the third frame. The red and gray even trailed by 10 a minute in the final stanza.
T.J. Pugh erupted for 20 points in the final eight minutes. His consecutive three-pointers and two free throws put SHS ahead to stay at 69-66 with 3 1/2 minutes to go. He scored a career-best 41.
More importantly, Shelby moved to 5-0 in the conference and now owns a two-game lead over River Valley, Ontario and Marion Harding.
